I agree. I'd hate to see the end to full sow releases (although it seems that's the case), but W/out a Net is an excellent example of what can be done with the right choices and care to making the best compilation possible.

The EYES and BIRDSONG chosen for that release are 2 of my all time favorites.

From what I can tell so far, the cuts chosen for the '79 Fall Tour release are pretty damn goo, i.e. Dancin>Franklin's and the aforementioned Shakedown.

I also like the fact that the packaging will include essays and thoughts on the tour itself. I can't get enough of that kind of introspection on specific Dead points in time.

if you read the anticipated FAQ section they say that this is not the end of whole show releases. They say more info coming soon. I questioned yesterday what their definition of soon is. I believe Dire had the correct response.

I agree about the Eyes, although I think the Bird Song from that show 3/29/90, is better than the one that ended up on Without a Net. Of course there are no bad Bird Songs imo.

Damn!! Grendel, I am impressed. You have mentioned 3 tours and 3 shows and 10/29/77 has not entered the discussion!! I am sure if they had played Birdsong that night.....

;-) (love that show too)

If i could magically replace the LLRain they played in 10/29/77 w/a Birdsong (ANY Birdsong) I would be in music heaven ;-)

(If i'm not mistaken, that was the only thing wrong with 1977--no Birdsongs the whole year)!
